Here, baby. There, mama

So going back about 8 or so years I began contemplating going natural before every perm. Basically once I get new growth I have an internal heart-to-heart and think "maybe this time I won't perm." This is usually ended by me having a hard time dealing with my hair's natural state. Then I say "fuck it" and get the perm ( Read more... )

lol @ the Malaak Rock comment.

my "best cousin" just told me she was going natural. i was shocked just because a few days before i was having a hair convo with a shared cousin and we both were like "yeah...chassidy will NEVER go natural". so that's almost how surprised i feel reading your post.

i like the site bglhonline.com

i think transitioning over a longer period of time, and just trimming off pieces at a time seems like the easiest thing to do. i've "gone natural" at least 3-4 times, and transitioning was less dramatic for me.

i need to get up on the youtube tutorials so i can figure out something more interesting to do with my hair.

anyway, happy transitioning!

lol Why does it surprise you?

"just trimming off pieces at a time seems like the easiest thing to do."

Yeah, that's what I will likely do.

"anyway, happy transitioning!"

Thanks!

i dunno, i thought you were in the "convenience" camp. i remember this issue coming up in the past...i think i have gone thru every point of the spectrum from natural nazi to pro perm at least 2x, so i honestly can't remember if i agreed or disagreed with you at the time, lol, but you were basically it was your hair & your preference which i definitely agree with NOW lol.

Aaaah yeah, I think I was in the convenience camp. lol Though I honestly don't remember discussing perm vs natural cause I think I've always felt conflicted about it. Even with the convenience mentality I felt like I thought my hair was "unmanageable" in its natural state and I knew that was bullshit.

Oh yeah I've been trying out some Oyin products even before considering going natural. In general I'm paying more attention to what's in the products I use and watching out for harmful chemicals. It's becoming a lot of fun to play around with stuff and see what works best with my hair.

I know I'm either 4a or 4b, but I honestly' can't quite tell the diff yet. lol

I've been natural 9 years, and I feel the same about not going back to relaxers. And I've had many "I can't STAND my hair right now!!!" days.

To this day, I don't know what hair type I am. I know I'm 4. Whether it's a, b, c, or d... who knows? But I don't really worry about the categories. I just know my hair is very tightly coiled in most places on my head. lol

Anyway, I encourage your choice to go natural! I'm in the "big chop" camp, but obviously do what makes you feel most comfy. You know I'm there if you have any questions.

Look at that. Something he doesn't know about Black haircare! lol =p

Oprah's hairstylist created a system of categorizing hair types. Essentially a way of noting what type of curl you have from loose to tight (going from 1-4 respectively).
