The other day on the phone Q said "idk" and I giggled because I'd never heard anyone actually say an internet shorthand before. Though I once said "laughing out loud" instead of actually laughing. lol (<----hmm

I had to change my answer because it's generally words, but I think I do read LOL as letters now. I'm waiting for others to weigh in and say they read some as new words, like "lawl."

It depends on the acronym:

LOL - I say the letters probably solely because I learned what LOL meant before I actually realized what they stood for.

Same with OMG.

I always say "laughing my ass off" tho, even though I learned that acronym around the same time that I learned LOL (maybe even before...).
