I go by Precious

Nov 15, 2009 10:47

So by now every one and their mama have commented on the movie Precious. I still felt a need to make an entry and touch on a few things that I haven't seen anyone else touch on (at least not in the blogosphere).

[cut for spoilers]

Colorism, Accents and Violence )

colorism, internal racism, hiv

I was looking side ways when she admitted to being HIV positive and Ms Rain tells her to write. WTF! I didn't understand. I have not read the book, I don't doubt the book is better than the movie, that comparison is usually true. I liked it but it gave me nightmares.

The description of Ms Rain...never thought about that til now.

I think my Mama didn't expect the sexual scenes.

I was suprized the theater was crowded, it's been out for a couple of weeks here cause we are one of the limited states to show it.

It was packed with majority black folks, I don't know how mny white people were there.

You should read the book! lol It'll really tie in some things the movie didn't. It has in the stories of all the girls in the class, it has info about welfare (back then) and the choices she made that make the story better (and her journey clearer) AND it shows how Ms. Rain really looks and how they helped Precious. Read it! Read it! lol

And it's a quick read! It's a pretty short book.

He's pretty cool.

Have you ever seen Jails, Hospitals and hipHop? I saw it a few years back and need to see it again. But I remember likely it a lot (though finding some parts questionable or at least not understanding his perspective).
