It seems every cycle I have a Toxic Shock Syndrome scare. Not because I'm keeping them in too long, but because ever since I heard of TSS I have lived in fear of getting it. I also constantly live in fear that I will either forget that I have a tampon inside of myself or that I will get one "lost" up there and need surgery or a rescue squad or

Okay, I know I'm tardy to the party but I'm surprised to hear so many women are/were/have been scared off of tamps. On one hand, I thought it was just me. But on the other hand, wow...I didn't realize how many of us were freaked out by them! I can't remember when I started using them, I definitely remember trying at maybe 10 or 11 and failing (the irony is I was trying to use them because it was the first time I was going to the pool while on my period, if only I knew then about the whole you don't bleed in water thing

I don't set an alarm, but if I'm having a heavy flow during the night, I don't sleep well. And if I think I might have a heavy flow, I won't sleep well. I've had pseudo-nightmares about spillage that have woke me up. Only to find I didn't even (remotely) need to change pads. Sad times.

You know, I've had my period for 20 years now so you'd think there wouldn't be so much anxiety but I still have that feeling too sometimes at night. I guess I had enough late-night bedsheet accidents as a kid that I still worry. The worst was the feeling of dread I used to have when I'd be in school. I was always convinced I was walking around with a some massive blood splotch on the back of my pants. I was paralyzed with fear for years.

Ha! I still have that fear. That fear is not so bad though. Not like my fear of TSS/tampons. But I will regularly check to see if I have a splotch, especially as I'm walking.

i have no fears of TSS at all, or of getting 1 stuck up there...my greatest fear re: tampon use is that it might inspire yeast growth.
