Yes, but there is also the fifty which we can't forget which makes it more than a teen no matter how you figure it. Because umpteen ends in teen it is limited to being no more than any teen (19).

You can say I have 20 dozen eggs. That's 20-12s.

Who's to say that ump-teen isn't some other way to group something? Who's to say that ump-teen isn't 50-19s?

Point taken. It COULD be a large number making umpteen larger than fiftyleven. But looking at it from that perspective we don't know if it's larger or smaller. Assuming that it is limited to the teens gives it a set amount.
