Ok ok I know I always say I'm "just curious" then I get all hot under the collar about what I claim I was just trying to observe thoughts about, but I mean it this time!!! lol I've always been interested in liguistics. I used to want to write a book on "curse words." Thier evolution, their role in language, etc. So... yeah....

I'm a combination of "too much is..." and "There are just certain words.."

I would say too much is a sign until you prove otherwise. And there are just certain words I don't use/don't like to use so.

I was wondering if folks could fit into more than one category. I actually do myself. I'm more "chill the fuck out" (that's prolly obvious lol), but I also have certain words that make me cringe. Like cunt *shudders*. But it's not because of any stigmas to it. It just.... sounds wrong to me.

I remember you saying you didn't (or was it that you didn't like to?) curse. For some reason I thought you did, then I had to look back at old entries searching for curses. lol

Yeah well..check that...there are some words I use with reckless abandon....but there are others I only utter if I'm really annoyed with something or it just seems appropriate.

I've never said the C word in my life and I've only used the P word when reciting lyrics to a song. C and P words...I sound like a little kid.

my answer was there's certain words I don't like. i chose that one i guess because I think cursing is a personal thing. I tend to curse a lot, but it's mostly when i'm annoyed. My sisters and I regurlarly call each other bitch. I guess what is weird about words is that their subjective to a lot of outside forces. There are words that i'm uncomfortable using, pussy and cunt right, most of us are.. but how many years will it be until they stop censoring it from radio, movies and tv, bringing up a new generation that's totally cool with it. Just think, decades ago, they were afraid to even SHOW a toilet on tv, let alone talk about it. And now the hilarity of taking a dump has been in every sitcom at least once. and then there's the whole language barrier. If i go to brazil and pick up a 6year old child and say "fuckity fuck bitch shit fuck" .. he's just going to blink at me. In a portugese world I'm just speaking jibberish. so what is it about a word that made society deem it SO unusable?

"so what is it about a word that made society deem it SO unusable?"

Yeah, that's what I'm curious about. Particularly the stigmas and connotations that go with it. I don't quite understand why it's connected to lacking intelligence. So I wanna study that and figure it out.

"or not cussin at all."

You know what? I think I am.... not bothered by those who don't curse, but definitely not comfy around them. Because cursing is a part of my language. Yes, I am perfectly capable of speaking without cursing, but I curse around people when I'm comfy around them. It has a relaxing quality. lol! And if you don't curse, I assume you're offended by it so I won't curse and that means there's some part of me that ain't too comfy with you. I'm monitoring myself.

And I'm mad at your asterisusises. lol!

I checked other...

Sometimes vulgar language is appropriate and sometimes it isn't. What I believe in more is the context in which it is used.

Good point. Although I like "experimenting" with language and mixing up variations and parts that normally wouldn't be combined. To censor yourself situationally I completely understand and feel is necessary, but to censor yourself contextually is just limiting.
