Hmm... I think one of my biggest pet peeves is being misunderstood. I mean, totally misunderstood. Like when people miss the entire essence of me and what I'm trying to say and/or who I am. Like I still sometimes feel compelled to to correct people about things they misunderstood me to say from months ago. But how crazy would it be to say "remember ( Read more... )

"I just know that there's some kid in a little village in Uzbekistan practicing his ass off to be the next LeBron James."

Mmm hmmm. Or he's just practicing 'cause he loves the sport and doesn't wanna go pro, but just likes to play. The best person playing the sport could be someone that has no intentions of ever joining the NBA.

A while ago Dani said something to the effect of "I wish men knew that if they listened to us, we'd tell them everything we need." It always stuck with me because I think it holds so much truth.

Oh I think that's so true. Cause even if she's not trying to it'll all come out in due time one way or another. She's not mostly going to say I need this, or I'll need that, but she'll tell you in various ways even if she doesn't realize she is.

That's why my suggestion to any guy is to listen even if you don't want to. Then you have the information you need, wether you intetions are honorable or less the honorable. But havinv that information is gold.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I took from it.

"That's why my suggestion to any guy is to listen even if you don't want to."

lol MY suggestion would be for him to find someone that he WANTS to listen to.

"wether you intetions are honorable or less the honorable."

o.0 Listening to someone you don't want to listen to with less than honorable intentions is just the bullshit. I mean, why lie when the truth is so simple? But whatever. I'd never understand the rationale of someone who would choose to be a punk and not be real so I'm not gonna start trying to understand now.

That's the one that I, personally, would choose.

I was going for the whole "they're our sports angle" cuz even if other countries now have better players they still come here to compete so our American leagues are the world stage for competition, except for every fourth year when the Olympics pop up. But yeah, it's still arrogant. And I guess like someone said above, it really only counts for sure for football.

Yes, Mos Def is amazing. I'm so glad he's been able to be successful without extreme compromise.

Re: Soulplane, it breaks my heart when these "actors" pull the "it's just entertainment" card... don't they realize that the media (including music, movies, etc) is (unfortunately) way more powerful than any $10,000 contribution or speech @ an NAACP banquet? THey are enabling negative stereotypes, and not using their positions for something positive. Don't get me wrong, this isn't to say that as an actor you should only make "we are the world" type movies with a solid message, but they should take more responsibility. These little B-movies carry a lot more weight than people realize. Let's get shit right in our communities first. Then they can make all the allusions to the 'hood that they want. Hindsight can be funny, but you have to take care of business first, IMO.

Portia, you're my girl. But I will get chickenheadish on you about Mos. lol But yeah, I'm glad he's made a nice smooth transition (back) into acting.

"don't they realize that the media (including music, movies, etc) is (unfortunately) way more powerful than any $10,000 contribution or speech @ an NAACP banquet?"

That is a great point (that I neglected to make). Thank you.

"Don't get me wrong, this isn't to say that as an actor you should only make "we are the world" type movies with a solid message, but they should take more responsibility."YES!!! I forgot about this too. People seem to have this "all or nothing" kinda mentality. Where if I dog a movie like Soul Plane it MUST equate to me needing EVERY movie to be Malcolm X/Bamboozled/Something the Lord Made/[insert poignant movie here]. And hel-fuckin-lo, that's not what I'm saying at all. Not wanting to see a coon movie, watching my people disgrace me/us does NOT mean I have no sense of humor and need shit to be serious all the time and can't enjoy a silly flick. Shit, all I ( ... )
