Why John Stewart is underappreciated and deserves more love than Hal

Today was a good day in the dollar bins. Not only did I find several issues of Gambit involving Jacob (who is, for all intents and purposes, the only FtM character in Marvel), but I also found the Green Lantern Special on John Stewart dealing with the apartheid.

Only, since this was written in 1988, DC messed it up epically.

It is so hard to like Hal Jordan most days. *sighs and goes to hug Guy, and John, and Kyle*

Though I'd kind of love to see that pic of Ganthet.

It really is. Sometimes I think "It's not that he's a bad person, it's just that everyone else is cooler", but then I read comics like this and go "No... no, he's just a really big dick :|"

I'll make a note to use my webcam on that scene in particular. It really is hilarious XD

Ugh, yeah, Hal can be a stupid, huge dick well above beyond the usual dickishness exhibited by superheroes D: I like him in the O'Neil/Adams Green Lantern and Green Arrow series, but then it's because he is a good dickish foil to Ollie's complete other kind of dickishness.

I really don't like Guy and I had stopped reading GL by the time Kyle came around, so John Stewart has always been my favourite almost by default, but he is very, very awesome in his own right and really deserves more screen time :(

It's true, alas.

Aw :< Guy is definitely my favourite of the GLs, but I understand why you dislike him. His best moments didn't come out until after his brain damage gets fixed in his solo series and before that... brain damaged!Guy was pretty much a giant butt. Kyle, though, is adorable and loveable, and I think if you get a chance, you'd enjoy reading about him? If you'd like, I can try to dig up some issues for you to flip though :D

Yeah, that's true -- I really only know 80s and early 90s Guy well, anything after that is kind of hazy. I stopped being able to afford comics around that time, and when I came back to them I'd moved into different fandoms.

I know Sara is a Kyle fan, so I always wanted to find out if I liked him -- the only thing I really know about him is his girlfriend in a refrigerator... D: That would be really excellent! I have always felt really bad for having this huge gap in my GL knowledge, so thank you very much! :D
