[Jack's been busy looking for things in the thaw. Mostly pipes, metal, anything that he could get his hands on that could be melted down. He picks up something that looks very deformed, grimaces and tosses it behind him. He finds an old bottle and discards it, shattering it against the wall behind him.]
Oh, I'm much older than I look in comparison to the time that we are in now. Immortality, lad.
[And now he thinks he's immortal because of it. Oh, the poor pirate has no idea what's coming later.]
Ah, a name after a country under English rule. I hope that from whence you hail England no longer has its grip so tight on the people. Taxes are rough. Even rougher is the rule.
I don't really know. I was swallowed up by a giant beastie creature called the Kraken then I woke up here some two hundred or more years after. I remember it clear as day though mud seems clearer at the moment.
[He wasn't about to go into the matter of the politics since the furthest he ever reached in North America was Virginia and he was shot at by naval vessels.]
Still two hundred years too long is enough for me to consider no wages under English rule.
You got eaten by a giant squid?? AWESOME! -or not. Maybe that's why you smell like that. *Now he thinks Jack's been stuck in a squid belly for 200 years*
Relations have been a lot better since then! Mostly!

[He's going to think the same thing so don't worry, America. He's right there just as confused as you are, my friend.]
