I was in 2nd grade as well. For some reason, I was late for school that morning and my mom was driving me. About a block from the house, we got into an accident. Guy ran a yield sign and my mom ran into him. Everyone was ok, but I don't believe I ever got to school that day. We got back to the house just in time to see the shuttle explode.
"The future doesn't belong to the fainthearted; it belongs to the brave... We will never forget them, nor the last time we saw them, this morning, as they prepared for their journey and waved goodbye and 'slipped the surly bonds of Earth' to 'touch the face of God."
arghghgh. I was in 3rd grade and stayed home sick (I was sick) & watched it on tv. Then like 3 years later I went to "Day of Discovery" --the first post-Challenger launch, in FL with my dad. These things were very important to me. I hope we do not discontinue the human space exploration program.
