PPL DON'T DESERVE COOKIES FOR ACTING LIKE DECENT HUMAN BEINGS.

Yes. It happens so often that I'll happen to mention some decent thing Tim did, like how he brought me medicine when I was sick or something, and women will respond like, "OMG! Does he have a brother?! You're soooo lucky!" It's like respect is some kind of luxury, instead of a basic human right.

It's unfair to men and doubly, triply so to women that what we've come to (or always have?) expect of men is that they're all ill-mannered, inconsiderate brutes who can't be expected to ever think of anyone else's well-being or take responsibility for their own actions (by, say, keeping it in their pants).

The men in my life are, overall, pretty wonderful (as I'm sure Tim is), and while I feel like it's nice and appropriate to appreciate that, there are times when I wonder/worry about our values/expectations, esp w/r/t men, when, like you said, we act as if being respected is some kind of amazing, luxurious thing. Yes, there are times when men go above and beyond, but we should not be awarding them medals for NOT raping women. And the fact that we do, and that many men come to feel entitled to them, is a frightening testament to just how common both rape and patriarchal attitudes are.
