I need a short-sleeved cardigan to wear with a dress I just bought. The dress is black with white flowers and stuff embroidered on the skirt. Thus I turn to you, Fashionable Ones, with two questions:

1) Where the fuck can I get a short-sleeved cardigan? And not pay like $100 for it? It doesn't have to be cashmere, guys. In fact, even tho I love ( Read more... )

questions, fluff, materialism

target tends to have lots of short sleeve cardigans this time of year.

it might be better to go to a store, but here's something to get you started.

Yeah, I think I need to hit up the store and see. I hate how they never have half the shit they have online!

frequently they have things in the store that they don't have online, though, so it sometimes evens out. sometimes. :-P

:(

If I'd had more notice, I could have knit one for you. I like the J. Crew one that someone else listed above.

Oh--and if this is for our wedding--and you want to wear white--go for it!!

Yes, b/c I'm sure on top of everything else, you need to be knitting a cardigan right now! But really, this is like amazingly planning ahead, for me. Normally I'd be getting my dress like the week before.

I like the J Crew one a lot, too. And it is for yr wedding. I'm still undecided about color, tho. I think I need to go out and try some stuff on.

Don't wear black or white only. Not that 90% of people follow these rules, but 10% do and those 10% will spend the wedding wondering why, if you are in mourning, you are at a wedding, OR why you are competing with the bride. Get a cute sweater in purple or whatever other color with some co-ordinating earrings/necklace/whatevs (my people favor the colors of spilled wine), and those black/white+wedding=bad people will then think you are a sensible person who has taken her simply smashing black and white dress and made it wedding-suitable.

I knew you'd be my etiquette expert! So, even if you're wearing black and white together, it's wrong? Does it change if you're officiating the wedding? (Which I am -- not under any religion or anything, tho.)

You def have me leaning towards a color, now. Thanks!

I don't think the black/white rules should actually apply; I think they're kind of outdated. HOWEVER, there are people who do still apply them, and there's no reason to get them het up. They're like the "hopefully" of the wedding: people who think about grammar all the time know that "hopefully" is just not that big of a deal, but we instinctively avoid it in case we happen to be with someone who cares passionately about it ( ... )

Get that target cap sleeve cardigan, or something similarly adorable. Don't get it in an orange color to wear with black, or other darkish warm colors with black, because it'll look too fall-ish in my opinion. Unless tis an evening wedding, which would then make more sense w/ the dark colors. But blues, greens, lighter purples, pinks = go!
