Wow. Haunting and beautifully written. What an intriguing idea, to make Rita Scrimgeour's wife. I love the interwoven nature of the story. Percy's POV makes perfect canonical sense and the ending is killer. Excellently done!

Starkly, darkly, beautiful. What a wonderful portrait of two lost people coming together out of nothing but need.

Outstanding!

Very well done; I really like this. Well-written and paced, taut, sharply-characterized. I love Percy's thoughts about how well Rufus and Rita complement each other and about how Rufus's caution is the result of a sharp, canny mind. I like your Percy, too -- his intelligence, his disenchantment with the current Ministry, his very understandable view of his family's attitude toward him (Arthur's canon suggestion about why Percy gets promoted is a breathtaking slap to him, and this line is perfect: "I don’t understand you and I never have" was what that jumper said to him.).

I really don’t want to hear how it is. I can’t write for the Prophet, I can’t visit Diagon Alley. I can’t bury my husband. I don’t want to feel any more helpless.”
This line gives an excellent view of your version of Rita.

albalark is right: the last line is a killer.

Excellent job.
