I just read the whole thing, and I hate to be devil's advocate, but I don't see anywhere that it mentions it will keep people from getting generic drugs or that they can spy on us (I thought they already did?) All I see is a piece of legislation that makes it easy to go after counterfeiters, both in real life and online, and make it harder to import and export counterfeit items. Am I missing something?

The following is mentioned several times in the document:

These procedures shall be implemented in a manner that avoids the creation of barriers to legitimate activity, including electronic commerce, and, consistent with that Party’s law, preserves fundamental principles such as freedom of expression, fair process, and privacy.

Which is the exact opposite of what was said in the video, where it was stated it would take away our freedom of expression, fair process and privacy.

It is not like SOPA and PIPA in this way. They just scare the crap out of me.

The US one has already reached the goal last time I checked it, it had 26,668 signatures. The UK one is up to 5,438. Those are the only ones I've seen specifically on government websites. There's quite a few other petitions but I don't know how effective those ones are.

I think the biggest complaint is that they kept this under wraps, didn't let the public know about it at all until some of the documentation was leaked earlier this month. Which is pretty underhanded if you ask me. According to that, it was signed last year without public knowledge. It pisses me off that of course the news stations didn't report anything because they're owned by the big companies that want to be able to crack down on this stuff regardless of what rights it might take away. I understand that it 'doesn't change any US laws' but it's seedy.

Commiserating and grumping more than anything else right now.
