"...paid a living wage to tell people what they should read and then discuss it with them afterward" is generally what people think librarians do. Since my clientele is middle-school-aged, however, I am lucky to get, "It was OK," when I try to discuss the book with them afterward. (The Hunger Games has garnered the most enthusiastic responses this year--"This book was GOOD!"--but they still didn't want to discuss it.)
