I just wrote a kind of mean post about why I think people like
The Willoughbys, and what I will say if it wins any Newbery honors (I can't believe it's showing up on Newbery shortlsts), but it was rude, so I erased it. (But I didn't dislike it because I have no sense of humor or don't "get" it, thank you very much.)

Now I liked "The Willoughbys" a fair amount. But in the same way I used to like Mad magazine. I don't see it as a serious Newbery contender.
Although there are a handful of authors who've won the Newbery twice, none have won it *three* times. I would be shocked in Lowry won it again, especially for "The Willoughbys". But I am also impressed by how versatile she is - all her books seem so different from each other. And "The Willoughbys" is definitely quite different from her other work.
