Never having had a strong attachment to Damon, I find the uproar over his departure a bit -- much. Glad to know the psychotic partisanship exists on the other side of 91, though.

I can't help but feel for Francona, an amiable guy whose incumbent centerfielder is now the redoubtable Adam Stern, who got on base at a robust .188 clip in 15 at bats last season.

Now, now. Small sample size, and all that. If you want to criticize him, criticize him for being made of spun glass, and for his enthusiastic but amateur base-running skills.

On the plus side, Francona just had his knee replaced, so he expects to be a bit spryer on his walks from the dugout to the pitching mound next season.

I dunno -- he'll be in less pain, but my experience with people who've had joints replaced (granddad's hips) is that they're stiffer than they were before.

Not that I want him doing backflips every time CLement gives up 3 walks in a row. I do enjoy having at least one reliably low-key guy on the team.
