The Christmas Invasion Discussion Question: Rude and Not Ginger

Aug 22, 2010 11:15

The Tenth Doctor spends most of the Christmas Invasion out of commission so that by the end, like Rose, the audience desperately wants him to wake up and rescue the Earth. How did you take to the New Guy by the end of The Christmas Invasion? Were you sold by "did you miss me?" Or, like me, were you pretty much gone by "I took your hand" in the ( Read more... )

If it wasn't the hand-holding/pointing out where they'd go next that had me falling for Ten, it was the beginning of New Earth. :D I find it interesting that there was a trade-off, if Ten were awake he could have handled things fairly easily but by being unconscious for most of the show we were given the chance to see Rose, Mickey, Jackie and Harriet Jones in action. :D

Ooh, pretty layout.

It was my first real regeneration. Knowing it continued the old show and what little I had seen of Old Who I knew something had to happen for the Doctor to be these different guys but I had never actually seen anything on the subject before. So I was pretty much willing to roll with the *idea* but I was definitely grieving for Nine too.

As everyone has said, it's brilliantly constructed to make you more than ready for the Doctor to show up no matter what the form. Rose, Jackie, Mickey, and Harriet are more or less treading water, doing okay but not going to save the world without him. And then he shows up with hero music blaring and saves the day.

Hut that's hero Doctor, I think what sold me on him *being* the Doctor still was the end scene and when he pulled out the "fantastic" card again to tell us that he was most definitely still our Doctor just looking different. And then there was cuddling in the snow and I was...not over Nine but okay with Ten since that was who we had.

I think having him unconscious for most of the episode was a stroke of brilliance. I wasn't ready to accept him as the Doctor yet. I still missed Nine. But since he was asleep for the whole episode, by the time the doors of the TARDIS open at the end, and there he is ("Did you miss me?") I was like "YAY!!"

Of course, after that it still took me awhile to really get used to him.

I was gone by "I took you hand and I said one word... just one word, I said... 'run'." Seriously, my knees went weak ahahahahahahaha

I loved Nine, but Ten is the best in my opinion! My favorite one! I fell in love with Ten when I first saw him ;D Well, I watched the show for the first time this year, so I don't know if my opinion is valid LOL

See, I went from Tooth and Claw, which was the first I had seen, to the Christmas Invasion, so I was a little confused by the regeneration bit. But I thought the whole episode was hilarious and fantastic and it's really what hooked me on Doctor Who.

And the Lion King reference....priceless....
