In which I gush about my love for The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances

Aug 14, 2010 03:54

I've watched TEC/TDD many, many times.  Yet on this umpteenth rewatch, about the time the Doctor triumphantly threw his arms up in the air near the end of the episode, I started crying happy tears.  I never cry happy tears, y'all.  That's how much I love this episode.  It has almost everything I love about Doctor Who, plus an incredibly moving and ( Read more... )

WHEN THE AWESOMENESS SCALE WAS MADE, THEY TOTALLY DIDN'T PLAN FOR THIS. Funny, because Ten says he's not a cat person in Fear Her.

Also, you did a great job at summing up why The Doctor Dances is my favorite episode (out of all the seasons). It has so many memorable lines, great characters, and the whole story is just beautifully written.

Eccleston is so, so good at happy!Doctor at the end of this. If you don't break out in a huge smile the instant he says "EVERYBODY LIVES", you are NOT human (happy tears are equally acceptable).

Bah, now I want to go watch it again. ^.^

I think Ten reconsidered his attitude towards cats after the whole disaster with the nurse-cat-nuns on New Earth.

I love Nine with the cat. And the very domestic 'milk' conversation. And the night club scene. And Nine with the ringing TARDIS phone. And the 'marxism or a broadway musical' comment. And Nine being a parent (nobody can tell me that the Doctor doesn't know what that's like after the scene at the beginning of TDD). And the flirting (whoever with whomever). And the dancing (definitely makes the top ten of my favourite series one scenes). And 'Everybody lives', of course.

Sorry, got carried away. But I love these episodes so much, although nothing will ever replace 'Dalek' in my heart...

Yes! I love all of this. Nine's reply to Dr. Constantine about knowing the feeling of having been a father and a grandfather and losing all that is small and easy to miss, but so poignant. Telling the child to go to its room is a great way of showing the parental experience.

S1 has so many good episodes! TDD is my personal favorite, but Dalek is another standout that I totally adore.

I wouldn't be too keen on cats if I met disease-hoarding nurse cats, either.

The ringing TARDIS phone was brilliant! I wonder if they've ever made it ring in Classic Who...

'Dalek' is definitely another one of the gems of Doctor Who. I didn't realise that until I rewatched it; things become much more apparent the second and third times around.
