“You, you.”
“Rani!”
“You… you…”
“Yes, are you ok?”
“Right, right, Doctor?”
“Yeah?”
“I need to get drunk.”
“Thought you’d never ask.”

It was something like three hours later and they were still in the club that had conveniently popped up.
The Rani was definitely drunk, as usual determined to prove herself better then the Doctor.
Despite having just come out of a fob watch in which she had spent around thirty years of her time.
The Doctor thought it best not to mention this fact; she would happily kill him while sober let alone drunk.
“They have the best bars on Gallifrey.”
The Doctor briefly considered going into the lengthy speech of woe about his planets fate but decided against it for… well much the same reasons why he hadn’t mentioned their “competition” actually, he liked his limbs attached to him thank you very much.
So instead he opted for the neutral ground of “we’re not on Gallifrey.”
“You destroyed it didn’t you?”
Ah, well, crap.
How did she do that?
Again he decided to opt for the continuation of his limbs and nodded.
“You utter, utter bastard.”

It was yet another three hours later.
The Doctor was still fairly sober.
He was beginning to wonder what was wrong with him.
Especially since he had just spent the last two and a half hours explaining how doing what he did was the only way and so on…
He definitely needed more alcohol.
“Destroying Gallifrey was the only way?”
The Rani on the other hand appeared to be sobering at a alarming rate, it appeared that they both had biology that was odd even for time lords.
His mind briefly wondered down the path of what would happen if they had a child and he shuddered, he was not going down that path again.
“Excuse me, so destroying Gallifrey was the only way?” ah, yes The Rani, he could hardly forget about her could he?
Maybe he was a little drunk.
“Yes, and I know that I shouldn’t have and now-“
“Doctor, you hated Gallifrey.”
“Pardon?”
“You. Hated. Gallifrey.”
“I did not!”
“You did, you liked Leela and Romana and Susan who wasn’t even there half the time but you hated everybody else.”
The Doctor opened his mouth…and then shut it.
He thought a little and then finally nodded.
He had hated Gallifrey.
But all the people…
“I just bet you’ve been trawling around the universe having an entire roomful of complexes about the war since it ended.”
Really, how did she know these things.
“Doctor you need a life.”
He glared at her for several moments and then crossed his arms over his chest “Shouldn’t we be devoting our lives to restarting our species?”
And she looked back at him for several more moments with a strange expression in her lovely eyes…
Before muttering “Never” and passing out.
True loves course never ran so fair…
