Canon or Fanon?

Of course we all know that the TARDIS rearranges rooms on a whim, or just to pass the time, or just to make things (in)convenient for her crew. Right?

But where did this notion come from? Is it TV canon? Book canon? If so, in which episodes/novels is it mentioned?

Or is this bug feature of the TARDIS pure fanon?

It certainly comes up in the comic strips a couple of times, though I don't remember it from TV at all. (Admittedly it's hard to tell - the Doctor's knowledge of his own ship seems somewhat variable.)

FWIW, the only time I can recall the TARDIS interior being rearranged was on purpose, in "Castrovalva." Other than that, things were generally located in the same place, even if some of the places (like the pool in "Invasion of Time") were a little suspect.

TV canon, of course. Can't speak for other media.

I think it's mostly fanon (in that it happens far more in fanfic) but there's a hint or so of moving rooms in some of the books. (Unless I'm misremembering?)

In one of the EDA's (I don't recall which at the moment) Sam is having her morning run through the TARDIS corridors. It is mentioned that she usually does this for a certain distance each day, unless the TARDIS has decided to change the corridors around making the distance longer than planned.

The switching-rooms-and-corridors around comes up a lot in the MA Crystal Bucephalus--and actually, Tegan's first runaround in the TARDIS in "Logopolis" kinda indicates that stuff's moving about, doesn't it? Or that Tegan has no sense of direction...
