I have two female Roborovski hammies who are just under two years old. On Friday, Crunchy suddenly started running in circles, over and over again, always counter-clockwise. At first we just thought it was kinda weird, but yesterday it seemed much more pronounced, so we called a few emergency vet lines. Between that and searching online, the best ( Read more... )

This is really interesting, because I had a hamster for only ONE WEEK that would constantly jump and land on it's back. I believe she broke her back in the process. Lemmie see if I can find that video of it...

Yeah, here's a direct link to it. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v145/sweetestshampoo/?action=view¤t=P1020462.flv

weird right? If what happened to your robo really is because of a stroke, I wonder if mine had one too?

We had a syrian hamster a year or so ago that did exactly the same thing - he was fine for the first 2 years of his life, then started spinning just like yours. He was still eating and drinking, so our vet didn't think it was an ear infection (although we tried some antibiotics just in case), but rather a stroke brought on by his age.

Unfortunately he was only with us for about a month after that, and we couldn't handle him very much because he just couldn't stop spinning. It was heartbreaking, but we were assured that he wasn't in pain, so we decided to let him live out his days.

I don't like to suggest the worst to you, and you should certainly visit your own vet and have Crunchy checked out individually, but you should probably prepare yourself in case she doesn't recover from this. I hope she does, though, and that your vet can help more.
