What is a chili cook off anyway? o.O?

I have a hard time explaining :(
It is like a big contest where groups of people get into teams and have a chili cooking contest. Usually there are games to play and dancing going on while people wait for the chili to be cooked, and people walk from booth to booth eating chili all day. That was one of the ones i'd done unfortunately.. By the time I knew it was broken though the doctor said it would heal itself. It took ages though =/
