Not actually for the Ficathon, but it's Doctor Who (albeit with a dash of Torchwood) and it is very, very historical.

Good fun, and an intriguing cliffhanger at the end!

"Responsible is my middle name these days."
"Possibly. Your first name's still Not."

Yeah, we really just wrote it to be fun and silly. And because I kept finding stupid things in chronicles that I thought were best explained by the judicious -- and perhaps not so judicious -- injection of the Doctor.

This is completely marvellous.

I don't know the history (or even the plays) like at all, but it reminds of the very best of Doctor Who, with Jack! Almost too much awesome to be born.

Thank you so much! We just couldn't resist throwing Ten and Jack into the fifteenth century and seeing what happened!

Now I finally got around to reading this, and I'd like to thank you ever so much for your contribution to this community! This story is both gloriously silly and indeed quite educational (at least for someone like whose knowledge of the Wars of the Roses is fairly ... vague). It was such fun to read -- the perfect distraction for a relaxed Saturday evening!

So glad you enjoyed it -- we really did mean for it to be silly and fun and if there is content, it's not intentional. ;)

"Because I am the cleverest man in the room and I have this message for you," the Doctor told him, flashing the psychic paper on which he had a tendency to rely.

This is fab - great fun, and very clever.

I read the whole fic quickly (and loved it!) a few months ago, and am now re-reading and commenting. What a pleasure!

The Jack pov is delightfully in-character, and also works well to introduce us to the historical period. When I read historical fiction, I'm always intrigued by how writers get across the necessary historical info, and you two did a great job of using Jack's humorous confusion (because he's, er, from Cardiff *grin*). I've always been confused by the Wars of the Roses, myself, and I sympathize with 1066 and All That: "During the Wars of the Roses the Kings became less and less memorable (sometimes even getting in the wrong order)." But your fic has made the history memorable for me! (Well, really, I tend to remember anyone who has been slashed with Jack ( ... )

(Oh, it is truly shameful how delayed my response to this comment is. I'd meant to reply ages ago and it...er...didn't happen.)

YAY! We live to make obscure historical periods more accessible! And, seriously, Edward IV is so easily slashable it would have been a crime not to let Jack in on the action.

I like the way you raise the question of whether the Doctor cares about individual people, or only about keeping history in order. Another thing that works well as story-telling AND as meta about historical fiction.

Again, I am so happy that came through because that's one of the things we both feel is fascinating about the very concept of Who but isn't really explored on the show as much as we'd like...
