Idris Reference Pics!

Hi guys! I went to the Doctor Who Experience yesterday and knowing some of you were after pics of Idris' dress, I tried to take a few detail ones for you. I realise now that kingpinwriter was taking some, too, for everyone (nice to meet you yesterday btw), but I figure our pictures will be slightly different anyway so here goes.

Oh, you are fabulous! The bodice detail and scarf detail are quite different from what I had thought. This is a big help! :D

I know, the dress is beautiful, you don't understand just how much work is put into it until you see it up close like that.

Ha thanks!

Great photos.
Interesting. That back side seam was taken in. The mannequin must be smaller than the actress. You can see the edge was already hemmed then the seam was sewn. It should be seam sewn then the bodice hemmed.

interesting! I would think tho, that altering the costume for the mannequin would be way more work than they'd go to... surely they'd just pad the mannequin? Her skirt is held out by a big lump of wadding, so there'd be no problem padding out the bodice too.

I rather think this is evidence that the bodice, at least, was NOT made for the episode. That sort of alteration would make sense on an old costume pulled out of a wardrobe... and IIRC the script calls for Idris to be in a wrecked victorian gown, so no sense in making new and then breaking down if there is something appropriate available!

If indeed this is a recycled costume, that would explain the difficulty in getting exact fabric matches... tho we've found pretty close!
