REcently i happened opon two unique items.  Each of these, are fairly expensive, but i think one of them almost solves the Tom Baker Vest issue.

It is a tricky item to replicate/find a match to. What I often tell people is to look around for argyle pullovers/sweaters with or without sleeves that have the best pattern/color match. Then have it cardiganized by a local tailor/seamstress (if one can't do this themselves). I realize that can still add up but then you're paying about what they're asking for the 2nd linked sweater anyway. Anyway that's what I did for mine but i got lucky finding a good base sweater on ebay ( ... )

I ordered that cardigan from him almost a year ago. Haven't heard anything in a couple months, before that there were order mixups. The company that does his knitwear sucks pretty hard.

Target is starting to get (I'm assuming there will be more...) some argyle sweaters at this time.

As a knitter who plans to make her own eventually, I don't have much to add to this except: nice finds! They should certainly be helpful for the "good enough" crowd. Of which I'm generally a part, except when it comes to knitted stuff. :)

Check out the Macy's web site, especially within the next few months as we're coming into the season for cardigans. Last year they had an almost perfect match for the Tom Baker cardigan, only 50 USD, but like everything else I noticed it more towards spring time, and between pay days. Naturally, once I got paid the cardigan was sold out in my size.

I'm keeping my eyes on Macy's now in the hopes that the cardigan reappears this year. (It wasn't available in the stores; it was an on-line only item.)

Dino.
