I know you'd think it would be easy to find an aluminium baseball bat... but one without logos all over it? Not so easy. If anyone can point me towards a fairly inexpensive silver bat I would be very happy.
Yes, that's what I'm doing, though it's really slow going if you do it by hand. I'm also considering using reflective paint or tape on the white section, for that glowy Hand of Omega effect.
What I did to get mine was put a wanted-to-buy note on Craigslist for an old, worn (but not cracked) aluminum bat. New bats are expensive, but lots of people (here in the States at least) have an old, worn-out bat gathering dust in the garage. I got mine for cheap from someone who was glad to get rid of it, and the logos were already mostly worn away which saved me a considerable amount of trouble.
Another idea I had, but haven't pursued yet, was to get an appropriately-sized plastic (wiffle) bat and paint it up to look like the genuine bat. It'd be harder to get it looking right, but it'd be much nicer to carry around while cosplaying. It might even be possible to rig the inside up with Dalek-thwacking light and sound effects somehow.
I'm in Australia and it damn near impossible to find a baseball bat, period, let alone one I could take into a con (we have pretty strict rules on what can be considered a weapon, and bats are one of them). Good luck! :)
I currently have scifichix's Ace Baseball bat which, if I recall correctly, is silver with no logos. I'll snap a pic later for you. But I would shoot her a PM and ask where she got hers and see if she has any tips.
