I literally just bought a 14' one of these off Etsy in October for more but if you're ever looking for a cheaper, shorter alternative, ThinkGeek just added this 12' one to their website: http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/f0dd/
I love Tom Baker's scarf, it's so eye catching! Definitely the type of scarf to wear during the winter time. I bet it's very warm since it was from Etsy. I like Etsy, I think it's brilliant. I'm getting a Vortex Manipulator from ThinkGeek soon, I'm very excited :)
That's beautiful! I wonder how much it is. I'd assume it'd be more than $70 considering the scarf on TG is $50. I'll save up one day and purchase one. I'd rather buy one homemade.
oh crap, I guess it's not up there anymore. I thought I linked you the item but I guess I linked you the transaction. Not sure how that looks on your end? haha. Anyway, it says they're on vacation. It was $85 though! :P This is the seller. http://www.etsy.com/shop/BlueWaterGifts?ref=seller_info
As a knitter how makes handmade wool scarves, I have to say nothing beats them. That said, they cost three times as much so it all depends on what you are willing to spend and how accurate you want it. This scarf for instance only has six of the seven colors as it is missing the brown. Still, a great price for a great scarf.
EDIT: Also looking closer, it does not appear to be the original "Garter Stitch" either.
The first thing I ever knitted was The Scarf. It really isn't that bad to knit, it just is a ton of yarn and takes quite awhile to finish. I am currently selling a season 12.5 from Ark in Space that is 13ft. for $150 and I really feel it is worth it. It is knitted with garter stitch like the original. It is wool like the original and the colors are stop on in my opinion.
Yeah there are so many different versions of the scarf I couldn't be sure because I don't have an eye for the detail to the extent you do! haha. :P Still awesome that there is a cheaper alternative now!
