Idris boots alts

Old Reliable, aka Forever 21, currently has some boots in stock that I think would work well for anyone wanting to put together an Idris costume. I'm vaguely stuck between Chestnut and Olive as the best color.

Faux Suede Combat Boots - UK site, GBP 21.00
Faux Suede Combat Boots - US site, USD 25.50
Faux Suede Combat Boots - EU site, Euro 26,40

retail, shoes/boots, retailer, budget costuming, alternative find, guest star: idris, episode: the doctor's wife

What about the beige? It's been a while since I watched TDW, but I had thought that her boots were more of a lighter shade? The chestnut is a lovely autumnal colour, certainly, and would help to bring out some of the shadings in the overall skirt and bodice. :) And the olive is a lovely shade, too!

I can't figure out how to insert a photo into this reply (since I can't find any "insert image" or such button to use), but I've got a few photo from some people who visited the Doctor Who Experience when it was in London, and I do have links to the photos. On display with the Junk Console from TDW was the Idris costume. They took some good close-ups of just about everything at the DWE and a few of them are nice, clear shots of the boots ( ... )

LJ is wonky like that sometimes. :( I have the worse time with images on LJ!

Anywho, thanks for the photos; I have some gray-beige boots from Target that would do quite nicely, even though the photos show a warm tanish beige. (The Target boots also have a zipper!)

My wife got a pair of those Target boots to start her Idris costume. I remember reading somewhere (possible on the Comm?) that someone bought those same Target boots and rubbed them down a few times with regular brown shoe polish. After a few rubs she said the color was close to what it should be. So maybe you could try that on an unobtrusive spot to see if it works. (Idris' boots are supposed to be a bit on the "rough and worn" side, so a small out-of-the-way spot to try that brown shoe polish rub wouldn't go amiss.) I just wish I could remember where I read that; I'd post the link for reference.

Dino.
