Sarah Jane Smith for SDCC

I got my costume today for SDCC! As a couple might remember, I posted this post a while back asking for advice and I great appreciate the input I got! A friend helped me alter things and I bleached the vest (which was a denim dress) to be the proper color. This will be my costume for SDCC. I know the plaid isn't quite correct, but it's good enough ( Read more... )

I missed the original thread, but that looks great. The denim color is fantastic. Do you have pants to match the vest?

yes, I do! Just a pair of light denim jeans I bought at a gently used thrift store. The entire costume was thrifted except the vest, which I found off ebay.

Wow, that second shot looks SO much like her!

Re: the costume, are you going to try and actually make the placket, or just mock it with a row of buttons?

That's one reason why I picked to cosplay her, I thought I kind of resembled her. I really wish I could convince my sister-in-law to cosplay/go because she looks SOOO MUCH like Lalla Ward and would make a perfect Romana.

I'm just going to sew a row of buttons. My friend actually altered the shirt & dress for me and I totally forgot about the buttons until I was looking up reference photos for this post.

Thank you so much! It was down to this one and the Andy Pandy outfit, but this one ended up being easier to replicate (since I can't sew to save my life and had a friend who could alter stuff). I hope someone out there recognizes me. I figured if I hung around my friend as Four, they will.

You look great in this costume! And don't worry about the shirt--you can always upgrade later. Once you source the plaid, you could always have it printed at Spoonflower.

And it's nice to see something other than the Andy Panda outfit--that is a cute one, but everyone seemingly does it when they cosplay SJS. It's certainly iconic!

And look, matching icon. :) ETA: at least I think it is. :)

Also, where did you buy the wig--it's beautiful!

Yay! Love the icon! :D

I was originally going to do the Andy Pandy outfit, just because I wanted to make sure people would recognize me. But then I got to realization I'd have to physically make the whole thing, and I can't sew and only know 1 person who can and I don't know if she would be interested in doing all that. (OR by a University of Wisconsin striped bibs even though it isn't entirely correct).

The wig I actually got off a Chinese seller on ebay - $16! The bangs are cut a little strange, but otherwise I love it!
