Nightclub hand stamps?

Jun 15, 2012 01:30

I feel like this is a stupid question, but I don't know, so I'm going to ask:

Are there London nightclubs that stamp hands for readmittance? If so, do they use ink only visible under UV light?

Thanks in advance!

ETA: Nightclubs use hand stamps, generally in visible ink; other entertainments (theme parks, etc.) might use UV ink. Which works ( Read more... )

I have had my hand stamped by one such club (said club stamped you when you paid, not when you went out for a fag/to find food/whatever) which used normally-visible ink; which is not to say they all do it, but it isn't unknown.

My university student union (Warwick, so not in London) used to use UV ink when I was there from 1997 to 2001 so it's not beyond the realms of possibility to have UV ink. Normal ink is probably more usual though. Not a stupid question :)

I've always had a hand stamp when going into a club, but never a UV one.

Since the smoking ban on public indoor places, there are a lot more people wanting to come in and go back out again, which means a lot more clubs using some kind of hand stamp. I'm in Manchester, so I don't know from London, but here it tends to be an ink stamp or even someone just scribbling on your hand, rather than infra-red. Maybe some more exclusive places would use infra-red, I don't know.

The only places I've seen infra-red hand stamps are theme parks. But many bars/clubs will have infra-red sensors in them to spot fake money.

Obviously, I mean UV, not infra-red.

I don't know if this will help (being from up North I don't know if it's just local and doesn't happen down south) but a lot of clubs use paper/plastic bands instead of stamps. The bands usually have the name of the club night printed on and the date. And sometimes different colours on a rotation so people can't sneak in using last weeks band.
If it's a special club night there might be something else printed - for instance if there's a live band playing, the name of the group might be on. And I've seen these ones printed with uv reactive ink/paper.

Solves the problem of someone sneaking out the side and transferring the stamp to all their mates hands with a bit of water and a biro!
