TARDIS help?

Feb 25, 2012 22:47

So, um, for Armageddon this year I'm doing a femme!TARDIS thing because I found a cool shirt. Or something. (Last year I did femme!Eleven rather unsuccessfully.)

So I'd love some advice on a hat, how to attach a sort've Police Box belt thing to me and.. well, windows. Also, perhaps tights? (I'm sorry, I'm useless and you guys do cool costumes and are awesome and stuff.)

I have this so far... (apart from the unicorn hat, that's just there because it's awesome, shh.. also, please ignore my awkward hands, I was swinging them back in forward and my face is just that special naturally.)

My plot so far is to write the POLICE PUBLIC CALL BOX thing across the middle, but I can't actually directly change that belt thing (as it's sort've not mine). A hat of some sort - which I would love some ideas for - and then the St. John's thing painted/somehow across one shoulder, then somehow two windows awkwardly up the top of my torso (but I'd love to figure out a way to attach them with safety pins or something so I can use the shirt generally :3)
I was looking at tights like these for it, buuuut I'm poor and stuff so I'm going to experiment with putting gold craft paint on a cheapo pair of tights which should hopefully last a day. HOPEFULLY. But I was wondering if anyone knew of any similar to that but perhaps a bit cheaper? (That doesn't have ridiculous shipping rates to the end of the world New Zealand)
Shoes, I thought just the lace up ballet flats or something similar. I'm not sure. I don't want to wear heels, as half of my group are short xD
Hair, I was going to die it black-blue or something, but I'm not sure. A lighter blue would be helpful, but I don't want to bleach my hair to do it.

So, um, yeah. I was just hoping for a bit of help from those who have done TARDISes before - I can't figure out how to implement the sign on apart from perhaps on a bag, or a handle/lock like I saw at Armageddon last year (seriously cool).

So, um, I'd love any help/ideas on it! (Also I can't tell whether the shirt (which is sort've lose fitting without the belt) reminds me of Amy Pond because of the shortness/tights or whether she actually wears something like that.)

(Did I do an LJ cut properly? I hope. Please work.)

I'm just going to add on and on and on here. BECAUSE THE WORLD TOTALLY NEEDS TO KNOW WHAT I'M DOING. (In reality, I'm doing it because otherwise I'll forget what I plot and I can't lose stuff on the internet.)

Because I'm a cheapo, I tried painting my tights with craft store paint (total cost: NZ$5 - and that includes paint brushes and tights). IT WORKS. It hurt like hell pulling it off my legs (it took off all the hair up the top of my thigh, yuuuurgh) but it does give it a really nice pattern (imo). I'm the first to admit I can't paint but I haven't managed to mess up swirls too much so that's good! And once it dries I can sit on it fine.

(Ignore the fact that my leg is slightly red and all the shit on my floor, please :)

I mean, it's cheap and I can get navy tights from the supermarket (since it's every second schools colours) for about NZ$2. EASY.

For hair, I'm thinking probably just use the spray-on hair dye stuff for black-blue, because I'd rather have darker than lighter (easier etc. etc.) but I'm going to test beforehand.

For make up and stuff I thought perhaps try to focus on sort've the yellow eyes that Rose (ugh) got when she looked into the heart of the TARDIS. That ties the tights in with more than the sort've "oooh I like the Van Gogh episode" thing that I've been doing (yes that's the reason I have golden swirly stuff on my legs. Ssshhhh.)

I'm still confused as to where to stick the St John's logo and the push to open thing and because some idiot gave me photoshop I spent a few minutes "drawing" up a plan

it looks like I have worms of some sort wut

So um yeah. ALSO HAT THING I FORGOT.
I found the tiny fez I was looking for - it was here. So I'm basically stealing off that idea but with the little TARDIS thing on top and somehow I want to get an LED in it so it lights up.

Plus, on a more.. comfortable note, through 'acciochocolates idea I'm putting insoles/arch things (I'll figure it ooout) in my shoes. FOR COMFORT.

(I just had a lot of Sodastream coke. /hyper)

budget costuming, the tardis
