At the age of 50, Miranda was sure she had everything she had envisioned when she was younger and ambitious. However, as always in good stories, there was a "but": L-O-V-E, a four-lettered magic word who seemed to be real to everybody except to her. Her three failed marriages and hundreds of angry employees proved to the world, and herself too, the Ice-Queen theory. It is said that every theory needs an exception and, in that case, the rarity were her daughters who, despite of Miranda's lack of parental skills, loved her and in presence of whom she allowed herself to behave as a human.
Andrea Sachs had shattered her world. At first, she was only one of her multiple assistants, more intelligent than a shoe but less than a toaster. Within a few months, Andy had turned into someone indispensable, someone that cheered up her mornings only with a smile though she would had only recognize it when the world was ending, not after and, certainly, not before. Andy had the brains and she, sure, had the body and Miranda found herself everyday more and more drawn to the Ohio girl. But then, Andrea... Andy... the girl with the brains and body had left her in Paris taking with her the last exhale of Miranda's life. She allowed herself to cry and grieve only for a night, starting a new page of her own "book" the morning after.
At first, her changes were imperceptible to Emily's, Roy's and her daughters eyes. Every morning she would get up after a night of restless sleep hoping that would be the day. She had changed her morning daily routine only to make Roy drive her in front of the Mirror building and to grab by herself a scalding coffee in the nearest Starbuck's to Andrea's new workplace. A month later from her return from Paris, she had subscribed to the Mirror online and, now, a copy of that "repulsive" newspaper sat on her desk every morning waiting for her to arrive at her Runway office. The days she didn't have a previous obligation she would find herself spending her lunch time in a little restaurant in front of the one Andy used to eat every working day. It was in those days when she was no longer punctual at work because she would spend her time admiring and memorizing every inch of her latest assistant body.
Yep... she was fully, madly and unbelievably in love with Andrea Sachs.
In love... what a wonderful feeling. Even though she knew it was unrequited it made her feel alive, noticing the blood running through her veins... after all she was not made of ice. But she would not act on her feelings. She was too old, too bitter, too damaged to be with Andrea but, especially, the fact that Andrea was already sharing her life with another "human being", stopped Miranda from ridiculing herself in front of the love of her life. The decision was simple: to move on risking the possibility of not feeling again or to be forever hooked on Andy. No... certainly she would not change her routine again so she would continue on loving Andrea from the distance until the end of her life.
You want her... you can't touch her.
