Written for
dragonwine for the drabble challenge that's going around.
It'll help if you read
Emily Dickinson's poem 'Bring me the sunset in a cup' (which was my prompt for this piece) first.
Bring me the sunset in a cup
Miranda:
Bring me the sunset in a cup;
Hang silver constellations up:
My beautiful prison.
The crashing waves cannot console;
Years of loneliness take their toll:
Soul guilty of treason.
Andrea:
I'll sit beside you in the sand,
And if I dare to, take your hand.
Don't push me away.
You fix your stare into the waves;
Don't fight so hard to be so brave -
Tomorrow's a new day.
Miranda:
The bitter wine upon my tongue
Reminds too much of what I've done.
I don't need your pity.
You're pure, unscathed, so innocent,
And I am just the opposite.
I can't have you near me.
Andrea:
I don't need any fancy words -
I know too well how your heart yearns.
Press the glass to your cheek
Condensation mixes with tears;
Let me wipe them away, my dear.
Just breathe, my love, don't speak.
Bring me the sunset in a cup;
Hang silver constellations up
Over the pitch black sea.
And now we wait for the eclipse:
Just close your eyes and part your lips
And lean closer to me.
