Fandom: The Devil Wears Prada.
Pairing: Miranda/Andrea.
Summary: Miranda says goodbye.   (I'm not sure how well this has ended.. but here goes..

-'It's only now that it's over that I understand what life is really all about. That each new dawn brings us a gift. The chance to cherish all the treasures we have. And the greatest treasure we have, is the one that's closest to us. But the irony is that we don't discover it until it's too late. It's the one who takes the back seat to all those other important things that we think about when we drive to work of a morning. The career. The morgage. The pay check. And yet my greatest acheivement was not my career. My greatest Secruity was not the thought of the home paid off. My greatest comfort was not my pay check at the end of the week. It was my family. My purest joy. My highest acheivement. My constant source of love.'-

Later that morning Miranda found herself laying on the bed which Andrea had been laying in only hours before. Tears ran down Miranda's face as she tried to shake the images from her mind of Andrea's body being removed from the house to be taken to the Morque. Miranda couldn't help but think back to a couple hours before.

Miranda had been dozing on the bed, her arms holding Andrea's body which was still laying on the bed next to her. A few moments passed until she heard a soft knock on the door. Miranda made no move to get up so she listened until the door opened and Emily walked in.

"Miranda. There are people here to take Andrea's body to the Morque." Emily had managed to choke out.

Miranda froze. "Tell them to come back later. Andrea's staying right here until I say so." Miranda replied and tightened her grip on her wife.

Emily stood there awkward for a moment not knowing what to say.

A few moments later Miranda heard a couple of other people move into the room.

Miranda finally opened her eyes slightly to see two men in uniforms wearing gloves and had other equipment with them.

Miranda made no move to get up or let go of Andrea.

"I'm sorry ma'am but we're going to have to remove the body from the house." One of the men spoke.

Miranda remained silent not trusting her voice to speak.

A few silent moments passed and both men moved to the bed where they began moving Andrea's moment.

Miranda tried to tighten her grasp on Andrea's body but both men were too strong for her and Andrea's body slipped away from her. Miranda let out a strangled sob as she watched Andrea's body being zipped into a body bag.

Miranda moved towards the men and Andrea's body which was now zipped in a body bag and she plunged forward and tried unzipping the bag. The men had to practically drag Miranda away from it. Miranda was pleading for Andrea to come back. To be with her.

Miranda let out a sigh as she shook the image out of her head and slowly stood up from the bed and walked towards the window of the bedroom where she looked out over the small backyard of the Townhouse.

A soft knock on the door pulled her out of her daze.

The door opened and she heard Emily's voice.

"It's time Miranda." The younger woman spoke as she walked into the bedroom.

Miranda turned around to face the younger woman.

"That is if you still want to." Emily spoke again.

Miranda nodded. "Yes. Sorry I just got lost." Miranda finally spoke as she slowly moved away from the window.

"Yeah. It's been a long day." Emily replied.

"Yes. It just feels like... I dunno..." Miranda trailed off. "That all this life went. I mean I'm not saying the funeral wasn't nice. But um.. What does it all mean?" Miranda asked and continued "A few nice words and some cake and some tea and then we scatter the ashes. And then what? I mean, Is this all that lifes come down to?" Miranda said.

"You've done all that Andy would have wanted Miranda you've gave her a wonderful tribute." Emily replied and Miranda looked back up at the younger woman. "She wouldn't have expected anymore." Emily added.

"Just a bunch of rituals.." Emily heard Miranda mumble. "It doesn't sound like it's special enough for her." Miranda said as she looked up to face Emily.

"Look um.. Are you sure you want to do this?" Emily hesistantly asked.
"Cause if you do we should go." Emily added.

"It's what she wanted." Miranda replied and began to move towards the bedroom door with Emily trailing behind.

When Miranda got into the Town car Roy drove them to there destination.

---

They all gathered down on the cliff near the beach. The air was crisp cold.
Miranda did not feel the cold though. She kept her head down, watching her step, as she walked closer to the cliff where Andrea alway's liked to go to clear her head.

All of Andrea's friends and family were here as they gathered around and came to a stop.

Miranda looked up and out over the water. Her mind was brought back to the present when she heard Andrea's beloved cousin speaking.

"We are all gathered here today to say goodbye to a great friend." The girl began. "I wanted to make a big speech and to say all of this wonderful and moving stuff about what makes up a life. Everytime I went to write something, I just saw this face staring at me laughing. There were no words good enough. So I.." The girl trailed off. "I thought it might be better if we all just spent a few moments remembering her in our own way." The girl said and looked around before bowing her head to look down at the ground.

Miranda let out a small sigh and she moved towards the girl. She placed a hand on her shoulder and the girl looked up at her. She nodded her head and began moving towards her family.

When she reached Andrea's father he looked down to the bag he was holding and opened it to reveal the vase which had Andrea's ashes in it.

He handed them to Andrea's cousin and they both began moving towards Miranda and the three of them began walking to the edge of the cliff.

The girl handed Miranda the vase when they got nearer to the cliff.

Miranda took it and let out a breath she had been holding before walking the rest of the distance to the edge of the water her own.

When she got to the edge she closed her eyes and took a few deep breathes.

She sensed that she could feel Andrea standing next to her but she shook her head and thought it was just her imagination but when she opened her eyes and looked to her left there was her beautiful wife standing next to her wearing an impeccable dress looking at her smiling.

"You can do this. You can." Andrea finally spoke and nodded her head.

Miranda looked in her eyes and let a small smile appear on her face.

She moved closer to the edge and Andrea watched her.

Miranda looked down at the water which was crashing against the cliff.

Miranda couldn't help the tears which were running down her cheeks as she thought back to the beautiful memories in which she and Andrea shared.

After a few minutes went by she took the lid off and began sprinkling out Andrea's ashes into the deep blue ocean.

"I'll always love you Andrea" Miranda said looking out to the ocean.

A couple of moments later Miranda felt a hand on her back.

She turned around hoping to see her Andrea there but saw Emily.

The younger woman had a small smile on her face.

They walked back to the others which were still all gathered together.

Everyone of Andrea's family members were holding candles and it looked lovely. Miranda couldn't help the small smile which appeared on her face.

She looked at all the faces of Andrea's friends and family and to the right amongst the people she saw Andrea standing there with a smile on her face.

Miranda sighed and smiled a small smile.

----

Miranda was sitting down amongst the grass when she looked up at saw her daughter Cassidy and friend Libby walking towards her.

Miranda looked closer to them and saw that both girl's were holding hands.

Miranda wasn't so much as shocked as she had seen this coming.

The girls reached her and Miranda stood up.

Cassidy smiled at her mother and then looked to Libby who was standing at her left.

"There's something I'd like to tell you, Mother." Cassidy said.

Miranda nodded her head.

"Libby and I are together." Cassidy said after a few silent moments.

Miranda let a small smile appear on her face.

Cassidy was suprised by the action and let a small smile appear on hers as well.

"I'm glad you told me Cassidy. However I'm dissapointed that you felt like you couldn't tell me sooner." Miranda replied.

They engaged a few more words and then they made there way back to the Townhouse.

---

When they got back to the Townhouse the twins went into the kitchen whilst Miranda slowly walked down the hallway towards the stair case.

"Can we get you anything?" Emily asked Miranda as she walked into the room.

The twins walked out of the kitchen and gave Miranda a small smile.

Miranda looked back to Emily and shook her head. "No. I just want to be on my own for a while." Miranda spoke.

"You sure?" Emily asked.

"Mhm" Miranda replied and made her way up the stairs.

---

Once upstairs in the bedroom she shared with Andrea, Miranda had sat down on the bed and she was resting her head on the head board of the bed.

Miranda stood up from the bed and walked towards the mirror where she saw herself looked back in her reflection. She let out a sigh and she walked back to the bed where she sat down. When she looked back in the mirror she saw Andrea sitting behind her.

Andrea smiled at her.

"I was proud of you today." Her wife said softly.

Miranda looked at Andrea in the mirror she couldn't bring herself to look away and turn around. She didn't want to turn around and see that Andrea was not in fact sitting on the bed behind her.

Andrea continued to smile at Miranda and Miranda smiled back.

---

That afternoon Miranda found herself curled up on the bed laying with Andrea.

Andrea was staring in her eyes so deeply. There was so much love in her eyes.

All Miranda could do was stare back.

"You're going to be ok." Andrea said softly as she traced small patterns on Miranda's hand. "You know that don't you?" Andrea asked.

Miranda nodded as she moved her left hand to cup Andrea's cheek. "As long as you're here with me." Miranda replied.

"Everything will be ok. I'm always going to be here, Miranda." Andy said as she moved her hand to rest on her chest near her heart. "Always." Andrea said.

Miranda nodded and smiled back at her wife.

"I love you." Miranda said after a few moments went by.

"I love you too Miranda." Andrea replied with a smile on her face.

Andrea slowly moved closer to Miranda and softly kissed her wife.

Miranda looked up in Andrea's eyes and they laid back down holding each other. Miranda let herself close her eyes as she knew that what Andrea said was right.

Everything was going to be ok.

Miranda knew that Andrea would alway's be with her. Forever.

- 'It's only now that it's over that I understand what life is really all about. It's about following your heart against the odds. No matter the repercussions. It's about learning to trust again. Even though those around us are still hiding secrets. It's about taking a chance. It's about searching for answers. Even when we're affraid of what we'll find. And believing in a future. But most of all, It's about love. Because when all is said and done, Love is the one thing that never really dies.'-

The End.
