Chapter 3.

The Next Day.

"Well, have you got her contact information?" Miranda asked as she looked at Nigel who stood in her office.

Nigel nodded. "I did."

"And what did she say?" Miranda asked, starting to get impatient.

"You didn't say anything about me calling her, you just wanted me to get her number so you could instead." Nigel replied.

Miranda sighed. "Really Nigel, I thought you knew me better than this." she picked up her phone and handed it to Nigel. "Call her, find out more about her and if I like the sounds of her then I will set up a meeting with her in the next day or so."

Nigel, knowing not to say no to Miranda, took the phone and dialed Andy's number.

It was picked up on the second ring.

"Andy Sachs."

"Andy, It's Nigel Kipling here, Miranda Priestly's Fashion Director." Nigel said.

"Yes, I remember you. Hi, how you did you get my number?"

"That doesn't matter." Nigel replied and rubbed at the back of his head. "What matters is that Miranda seems to have taken an interest in you and we were both wondering if you were interested to come in for a interview to maybe get some Articles published in Runway?"

"I like to look good, but that doesn't mean I have an interest in fashion." Andy replied. "Tell Miranda that I thank her for thinking of me and for the offer but I will be declining."

Nigel frowned. "Are you sure? This is a great oppurtinity."

From Nigel's words and the look on his face, Miranda knew the woman must have declined the offer. She shook her head and continued listening to Nigel speak.

"I'm sure." Andy replied.

"Alright, well, If you still want to we should meet up for a couple of drinks one night soon?" Nigel asked.

"That sounds good. I'll give you a call when I'm free." Andy replied.

They said their good byes and hung up.

Nigel looked at Miranda. "She said no."

No one had ever declined a job offer to work at Runway before so it puzzled Miranda. She knew there must be another reason for why the brunette doesn't want to work for Runway and it only made Miranda more curious to want to know this 'Andy' woman.

She sighed and had to fight the urge to run her hand in frustration through her hair in frustration. She looked up at Nigel. "Alright, well I suppose there isn't anything else you can do."

"If she changes her mind when I meet her for drinks I will be sure to let you know." Nigel replied. "Now, if there's nothing else I need to get back to work?"

"No, you can go." Miranda replied. She watched as Nigel left before she turned around to face the windows and looked outside at the skyline of New York City. After a few moments in silence Miranda felt the need to go for a drive on her own. She stood and made her way out of her office. "I'm leaving for the day." she informed Emily.

"But, we have-"

Miranda cut Emily off with a glare. "No, no, you will reschedule everything for tomorrow."

Emily shut her mouth and nodded wordlessly. "Of course, Miranda." she finally said.

"Good." Miranda replied before she took the offered coat and bag from Emily. "I don't want any interruptions this afternoon, you know to call Nigel for help if needed when I'm out of the office."

Emily nodded again, already knowing the drill.

Miranda entered an empty elevator and descended down to the ground floor. Once outside she got into the waiting downcar. "To the townhouse." she told her driver Roy.

20 Minutes Later.

Miranda stood in the empty garage where her Lexus was supposed to be. Stephen had his own car, he wouldn't have it, the girls weren't old enough to drive, she was fuming now. She dialed Emily. "Where, pray tell, is my car?" She icily asked.

Emily's eyes widened. "Um, ah, as far as I'm aware it's still getting serviced at the garage." she replied, clicking the computer mouse furiously to bring up the schedule to see that yes, Miranda's car was at the garage was due to be picked up tomorrow morning. "It's not ready to be picked up until tomorrow." she informed, fearing Miranda's next words.

"Unacceptable. I want to use it now. Call them and make sure it's ready by the time I get there." Miranda demanded before she closed her phone with a loud snap. She glanced back outside and saw Roy still parked by the curb as he talked on the phone. She clacked over to him and opened the door and slid back inside causing her driver to jump in surprise.

Roy quickly ended his call and fumbled with the buttons to disconnect it. "Miranda, I wasn't expecting you again?" he said, glacing at the Editor briefly in the rearview mirror.

Miranda just ignored him. "I need to get my car from the mechanic's."

Roy nodded and put the car into drive and pulled out onto the street.

Soon Roy pulled the car up in front of the garage.

"Did, would you like me to go get your car?" Roy asked as he looked at Miranda in the rearview mirror. He was shocked when he saw Miranda shake her head.

"No," Miranda turned to look at the building named RICHIE'S. She put her hand on the door handle and opened it. "I won't need you again today Roy." she said softly.

Her driver nodded and watched as she exited the car and entered the building. He sat by the curb for a couple seconds too shocked by the fact that the Miranda Priestly just walked into a garage in expensive designer clothing.

Miranda looked around the fairly large building. To her right there were cars lined up against a back wall and through an open door she could see outside where there were more cars. There were a few other cars that were held up by huge clamps for the garage to stand under the vechile to be able to work on them.

Straight ahead of her was a counter with a computer, papers scattered all around it, behind the desk were shelves that containted dozens of car pieces and there was a stereo player that was currently playing "Piece Of Me." by Britney Spears.

She looked around for someone to ask where her car was but couldn't spot anyone. "Hello?" she said just loud enough to be heard over the music playing.

"Just a sec."

Miranda turned her head to the left where she heard the female voice come from. She saw three cars and as she looked closer she saw legs clad in dark blue overalls of someone, the woman, bent over the front of a car. She watched as the woman, a brunette, pushed herself away from the car, grabbed a cloth and wiped at her hands, before turning around.

Miranda gasped when she found herself staring at the beautiful mysterious woman from the night before.

Andy looked down at the engine of a V8 that she was currently working on. The driver had brought it in and told her what had been happening and she figured it out after the first twenty seconds to the engine and from studying the car. She picked up one of her tools and leaned forward just as she heard the front door open and the sound of clacking heels enter the workshop. She had many female customers that she was pretty friendly towards so she had been surprised when she heard the voice that belonged to none other than Miranda Priestly herself. She took a deep breath at that voice. The voice she had been hearing over and over in her head ever since seeing the Editor the night before.

"Just a sec." Andy called out. She closed her eyes and breathed deeply. "Okay, so Miranda Priestly is here. So, I might have an attraction for her? So what? She won't know that. If she's here to ask me about being in Runway I will politely decline and she will be on her way and I can resume working on this car." she thought before nodding to herself. "I can do this!" she softly said before she pushed herself from the car, dropped the tool she was holding next to her, picked up her cloth and wiped her hands, before she turned to face the Editor in Chief of Runway Magazine. "Oh boy." she thought when she laid eyes on Miranda again. The woman was a vision! She wasn't sure how she was supposed to hide her attraction for the other woman when the woman was stunning and had such sex appeal to her.

Andy walked over to her with a smile on her face. She could do this! "Hey there," she said, stepping near the older woman, their eyes connected. She took a deek breath. "It's Miranda, right?" she asked, hoping to come off casual.

The editor wordlessly nodded at her.

"Um, o-okay, can I help you with something?" Andy asked. She could have kicked herself for stuttering because she let the woman's stare get to her.

"I'm here to pick up my car." Miranda said. "Surely you knew that, this is where you work?" she asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Oh!" Andy said, she walked past Miranda and leaned down to look at the computer screen and there was Miranda Priestly's name saying that her car was in. "Yes, of course." she said, looking back up to Miranda. "I've had a lot on my mind lately that I forgot about it." she said. She remembered the woman's assistant coming in and telling her what was wrong with the car and to fix it as soon as possible. Of course this was when she didn't know what Miranda Priestly looked like so she hadn't paid particular interest to the fact that she was working on The Miranda Priestly's car, it wasn't a big deal for her.

"Yes, well, is it ready?" Miranda asked impatiently with a raised eyebrow.

Andy looked up at her and nodded. "Sure is. I finished working on it this morning. I was going to call your assistant later to tell her she could pick it up whenever she was free." Andy replied. She walked over to the cabinet that held all the keys to the cars they had in the workshop. She pulled out her keys and opened it up, grabbed the keys to the Lexus and closed the cabinet and turned back to Miranda. "It's just out the back if you want to follow me or I could bring it around the front for you?" she asked, and watched as the other woman shook her head.

"Just show me to it." Miranda said simply.

Andy nodded quickly and turned and led Miranda outside to the car.

They came to a stop in front of the silver Lexus and Andy pressed the unlock button on the set of keys. "So, Emily explained to me that when you drove the wheel shook?" she asked looking up at Miranda who nodded. "Yeah, it was the engine that was shaking which caused the wheel to shake. All I had to do was get a new transmission mount for it which is much cheaper than having to change the two motor mounts." she explained, before looking up at Miranda and laughed. "You probably have no idea what I'm talking about." She said and opened the door to the car and leaned down and placed the keys in the ignition and started the engine. "Long story short, I fixed it, took it for a drive and it's all running smoothly like normal." she said looking back up to Miranda and caught her staring at her. She smirked when the older woman quickly averted her eyes away and she could make out the faintest blush forming on the woman's cheek. "Interesting." Andy thought.

Maybe she was in luck? No, she couldn't be. The woman was married.

"I'm Andy, by the way." Andy said and stuck out her hand. "Well Andrea, but everyone calls me Andy." she continued.

She watched as Miranda looked down at her hand and Andy looked at it as well and saw how dirty it was. Could she be anymore of an idiot? She fought the urge to sigh and she looked back to the car, but before she said anything she was shocked when she felt a warm hand take hers. Her breath caught when she turned and saw Miranda gazing at her intently. "Um yeah, so if you have anymore problems feel free to drop in and I'll take another look at it." she said nervously when Miranda dropped her hand and she turned back to the older woman's car.
"How much has this cost?" Miranda asked making Andy look at her again.

Andy told her the amount and watched Miranda pull out her purse and took out a wad of cash.

"Keep the change." Miranda murmured. She trusted that the woman had in fact fixed her car properly unlike the last garage she had taken it to.

"Thank you." Andy replied.

"And these are yours." She said, handing Miranda over her key's.

The woman accepted them, but made no move to get into her car.

"Ah, feel free to ask any question if you have some." Andy said. She was asked a ton of questions everyday after fixing someones cars.
Miranda shook her head and wordlessly began walking towards the open door of her car. She slid inside and Andy closed the door for her.
"Drive safely." Andy said as she watched the older woman place her sunglasses on and she saw Miranda gazing at her through them and their eyes met again. The woman watched her curiously for a minute before she nodded and the car moved forward towards the open gates of the corner block the workshop was situated on.

Andy stood standing there as she watched the car turn onto the street and wondered about Miranda's odd behaviour. When Andy caught Miranda checking her out she had thought that the woman might like her but then she remembered that Miranda was married so she couldn't be in to her.

With a shrug, she headed back inside and decided that if she and Miranda were meant to be together then they would meet again someday.

~*~

As Miranda found herself standing face-to-face with the brunette woman that hadn't disappeared from her mind and dreams the previous night she couldn't help but stare at her. She watched the woman wipe her hands on the cloth she held before letting it drop onto a nearby bench. She took in the woman's hands and dirty overalls. She had a small bit of grease smeared on her right cheek and on the front of her right arm.

Even though she was dirty, Miranda found the messy look very hot. Especially how she wore her overalls jumper tied around her waist and wore on her top a white wife beater that clung to her body brilliantly. She could also tell that the woman wasn't wearing a bra underneath which Miranda found was quite a turn on.

When she had followed the woman out to her car she couldn't help but watch the way the brunette's body moved when she walked. The woman was sexy. When the brunette leaned down to put the keys in the ignition she couldn't help but let her eyes wander down her body, taking in the gorgeous curves and those long legs. When she looked back up to find the younger woman looking at her, a small smirk on her face, she had quickly turned away and could feel a furious blush forming on her face. Her heart had beaten wildly in her chest by being caught staring at the brunette's body but was glad to see that the brunette didn't seem to mind.

And when the brunette had told her, her name and held out her hand for a hand shake the older woman had said the brunette's name over and over again in her mind. Andrea was such a beautiful name. She at first wasn't going to touch the other woman's hand when she saw how dirty it was, but then she pushed the thoughts away, and clasped the warm hand with her own, the shock on the brunette's face had nearly made her laugh. She then had watched the woman nervously turn to look at her car when she dropped the young woman's hand.

Miranda had never let her guard down in such a way before, allowing herself to show a small amount of emotion through her eyes as she stared in the brunette's eyes while she held the other woman's hand.

Once she had left Andrea she drove down the street and realized that the woman had indeed fixed her car and it seemed brand new. She really wanted to see the other woman again and she needed to find a way to make that happen, realising from her first actual meeting with the brunette that she wanted to know her properly.
