My Fellow Prada-fen,
Surely we can all agree that Valentine's Day has become commercialized, crass, slick, over-hyped and all too frequently devoid of substance. It is, in short, the perfect holiday for a cast of neurotic characters who work at a fashion magazine.
And there are only four days left! Four days in which to produce stories, artwork, essays, vids, or anything else for our beloved Miranda and all those other schmucks fictional friends. We must not let the opportunity slip by. Who's with me?
I'm already working on something, and I hope some of you are too. But if anybody is looking for inspiration, I've got an
eeny-weeny list of prompts.
Okay, so I might have been compiling this list for a while, with the vague idea of starting an eventual DWP Fuh-Q Fest or something, but frankly I would have no idea how to run such a thing. And it seems a downright shame, seems an awful waste (a la Mrs Lovett), never to let these prompts see the light of day. Even if nobody writes them for Valentine's Day, maybe they will provide inspiration for the future.
(apologies for the wonky formatting, blame MS Word where I typed up the list)
1. The Very Secret Diary of Character X.
2. A character is kidnapped.
3. "We're facing certain death! How should we spend our final seconds/minutes/hours?!" (aka the die-at-dawn scenario)
4. Mary Sue visits Runway.
5. Perfume.
6. Virginity.
7. Meet the Parents. Anybody's parents.
8. Coming out of the closet. Or coming in The Closet. You decide!
9. Voyeurism.
10. Male pregnancy. I double-dog-dare you.
11. Sex in public. Getting caught optional, but a bonus!
12. By golly, it is time to teach Miranda Priestly a lesson. How to do
it, and with whom?
13. Foot fetish.
14. Food sex.
15. The security guard is doing the night rounds at Runway. What does s/he see?
16. Why does Jacqueline irritate Miranda so much, anyway?
17. "Character X woke up gay."
18. There's nothing in the world that could tempt Emily to break her diet. Is there?
19. Fishnet tights.
20. Why is Character X hanging around in such a shady, seedy part of town?
21. Aphrodisiacs.
22. "I can't have the one I love/want the most. I guess you'll have to do."
23. D/s scenario, with an unlikely dom and sub.
24. Danger in Elias-Clarke! The lights are out, the elevators aren't working, and there are cops everywhere outside! What's going on?
25. An accident happens during a shoot. Two words: "hurt/comfort."
26. Crossover time! What happens when the Runway regulars meet something truly beyond their experience? Say…wizards? Or Vulcans? Or vampires? Or happy fat people?
27. You'd be surprised what people tell you when they're drunk.
28. Mistaken identities.
29. "We can't! We mustn't!"
30. Gangbang. (Edit: Bonus points if you can tie it in with #12)
31. Fantasy and roleplay. (Not the D&D kind.)
32. A chance encounter in an unlikely place.
Edit: How could I possibly forget?
33.
A Canadian shack. If you decide you want to use a prompt, it would be cool for you to leave a comment, but not strictly necessary. It'd just be...really cool, that's all. (For the record, I'm using no. 32, but there are of course no limits on how many people can use any given prompt.)
ALSO: None of these prompts strictly have to be about Valentine's Day, of course. My fic isn't. The main idea is to write or draw or vid lots of lovely things all week long.
All pairings welcome! Het! Slash! Both! All characters and ratings and genres! I'm so excited I have to use exclamation points! You'd almost think I was actually organizing something instead of throwing out a random list of ideas, but I'm not!
Ideally we could all post our work on the 14th, but again, it's only four days off and everybody works at a different pace. So what if we start a Valentine's Week tomorrow and extend it until Sunday the 17th? Is anybody out there willing to say anything to shut me up interested?
