Things That Make Writers Drink Heavily

Tonight on Chelsea Lately, Chelsea interviewed reality star Lauren Conrad of MTV show The Hills. The reason she was on the show?

She's written a novel.

"Did someone write it with you?" Chelsea asked right away, knowing that a career in having catfights in front of a camera doesn't necessarily prepare you for writing literature.

The 'entertainment industry' is so freakin over the top these days that it's difficult to watch. Just lost in space. And all the little kiddies are brainwashed... LOL

I think it's like a train wreck...everyone knows it's awful, but they can't look away.

There have been lots of annoying "celebrity" books, but this one just made steam come out of my ears. I can't stand now how these non-talented people just get to wake up in the morning and go "OMG, I'm going to be a fashion designer!" and someone will make it happen for them.

I've not heard of her, but yes - this kind of celebrity book is all too common and it makes me sick too.

I only know of her because of watching The Soup on E!, which makes fun of all those shows. All celebrity books drive me crazy, but this one really made me blow a gasket because she's not even an actress. She's just someone who's famous for being famous, and she gets to walk into a publisher and go "I want to write a book!" and they say "Okay!"

Argh! Hollywood is ruining everything! As if they haven't ruined the music industry, now they're trying to take over the literary world as well?! There are so much garbage out there, while the artists/writers who truly deserve the opportunity won't get it. The injustice! *grumbles*

I think they're ruining the fashion industry too. Every celebutante is now a "designer". The marketplace is flooded with these reality stars, most of whom have no discernible talent, who get to name their own career. The Lauren Conrad book has a 4 1/2 star rating on Amazon, because it's all teenagers who bought it just because her name is on it. Some of the reviews say they didn't even know what the book was about; they just bought it anyway. *clutches hair*

On other blogs I've read that professional writers are borrowing money just so they can finish their books, but all the non-writers are raking in millions.

Things have always been unfairly skewed towards the famous, but it's gotten out of hand. Especially when the famous people don't even have any laudable skills.

I keep hoping we'll swing back towards actual talent, but who knows. As usual, it's all about the money. Reality shows are cheaper to make, and people still watch them.
