Near our home is the Cantigny Park, Gardens, and Museum, the former residence of the McCormick family. Holy sheep, that's gorgeous. O_O I could get used to having that to wander around in every day.

Where'd they land their plane? [squint/ponder] If it was O'Hare, I have a feeling that today they could just drive up from the estate to downtown Chicago faster than it'd take them to get from the airport to downtown. [wry smile]

Heh...no, not O'Hare. They were instrumental in opening up Meigs Field, a small airport right on Lake Michigan and a stone's throw from the Mag Mile. (The airport has since been closed by Mayor Daley to avoid any terrorist plane plots in the middle of downtown.)

Considering the way traffic is nowadays, I often wish for a plane to get me from here to downtown...heh...

I want to live there! And given the ice-rain crap coming down outside, I want that weather, too.

I know, isn't it gorgeous? The house is large but not ridiculously so--it began as a summer residence and then had an addition added later. But the grounds are huge and incredibly lovely. I'll have to post more pics from there. We've got snow and ice crap here, too, so it's nice to look at pretty summer pictures for a change!

It's exquisite, isn't it? There's a full rose garden, an Asian rock garden, long stretches of trees, a buttefuly garden...it's just incredible.

And g-guh on having Mellors walking across the lawn. Now *that's* the life. Rowrr.
