I did a little research for that trip I want to take to Australia this summer. And just for the heck of it I had a look at New Zealand as well. Sadly, the official tourism websites for each nation rather leave something to be desired ( Read more... )

I actually grew up only a few miles from the Michigan border. So Michiana is home to me. I'm from Elkhart if you want to be specific about it.

Anyway, cold weather doesn't bother me all that much. It's a pain, but winter is still my favorite time of year.

Australia does get snow but only up the top of the mountains in the states towards the bottom of Australia, New South Whales, Victoria and Tasmania. Most of the mountains have to bring in snow making machines to bulk up the snow on the mountains to make it able to be skied apon. In the cities snow is unheard of. I mean there is the odd freak once in 50 year event when it happens, but it's more like a patch and that's it.

Victoria (Melbourne being it's capital) has horrid weather in summer though, bitter, cold and rainy and then sometimes thrown in is the odd really hot day.

I think the global warming issue is really screwing with Australia's climate.

I know you don't know me, but I saw you commented on my good friend Ang's lj.

I think the frame packs are a great idea for traveling. If you go to a Mont-bell, its a Japanese out door shop that has some sweet deals on internal frame packs. You can get the size you need for a multiweek trip for around a man. I think my friend just bought a 45 Liter one. She's using it for 3 weeks in South East Asia. I know mon-bell has a website, and it also has an American site, so you kind find out alot of info there.

And as far as Australia in Winter goes, There are two JETS in my city from Canberra. I'm not to sure how much their is to see their based on what they said, but it is the country's capitlal, so it must have something to offer. And winter there isn't anything like the North East or the Great Lakes area. Snow is rare, but its still cold enough that you'll want a winter jacket.

Hope this helps. がんばって! I probably spelled that wrong, but I suck at Japanese.

I don't mind people dropping by from other forums. Though because of some recent problems most of my posts are friends locked these days.

Anyway, thanks for the advice. Sounds like Melbourne isn't to be missed.
