So it sounds like it's a completely different series and characters, just set in the same universe?
Personally, I think that's a great idea rather than just extending Aang's story. Perhaps it will let us know about the other characters' stories through the history she learns about the previouw Avatar?

Yeah I think she's the next Avatar, hopefully we get a "The Avatar and The Firelord" type episode with SpiritGuide!Aang the way Aang had Roku.

Awesome! I like the idea of them letting "The Last Airbender" rest, and not potentially souring the flavor of that story (which is so complete and well-done) in the name of making more money.
I hope they do "Spirit Guide Aang" stuff too, so we can still get a view of what happened in everyone's lives after the end of the war ^^
I'm okay with a Mononoke vibe. I'm just happy it's the same writers. No doubt it will be enjoyable!
