Older toddlers (two/three year olds) love songs or rhymes with hand gestures. More importantly, at least with my kid, they make more attempts to sing the songs that also have hand gestures. Perhaps because they feel more confident in the accuracy of their gestures than in their mouth's ability to make the words ( Read more... )

You rock! And thank you for teaching your kid some sign. It isn't a big deal to most people, but I have deaf family, and know how much they appreciate hearing people that can communicate with them, even if it is only a few things. We met a little boy with Down's at our playground, and Vivian and he had a whole conversation because they both signed. He is hearing, but non-verbal. It makes a huge difference to some.

We've been slacking on the signs since Pip has become so verbal, which I understand is pretty common. But I don't want to let it go entirely. I'm hoping when we have the next one and start signing for her, that will help Pip keep up with her signs.
