As we're coming up to Lent, I am thinking about temporary or permanent changes (perhaps temporary in severity but pointing towards a more moderate permanent change) to make in my life and in the life of my family ( Read more... )

Reminds me I need to talk to work about mass on ash wednesday - see if I can come in early/skip lunch to go. I think I could go in the evening, but I much prefer earlier in the day for that!

I learned a lot from this post! Usually I do full-fast (water only) on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday and meatless Fridays during Lent. I never thought to look into the history of fasting. I wasn't raised Catholic so I'm not the kind of person who thoughtlessly gives up chocolate and TV for Lent without a real purpose to the sacrifice. It's refreshing to see another person put the same kind of thought into it. We are so addicted to our electronics (I am, at least), kudos to you for trying to make a change for the better.

Lent is my favorite time of year. Good luck with your sacrifices.

Oh well hello fellow Floridian and Knight! I'm always on the lookout for additional Catholic friends and additional local friends, and you're both. Mind if I add you?

Please do, I'll add you back. :) I'm always looking for local Catholic friends too. What Church do you go to here?

Added! I live on the coast so I'm a member of St. John the Evangelist in Viera.

I really, really like the idea of fasting entirely from the internet on Fridays + modified approach on Wednesdays and Saturdays. I've been trying to figure out how to work an internet fast into my Lent, because I can't give it up entirely (or do an "only on Sundays" thing), but I know I don't have the self-control to, say, limit myself to an hour a day. It never stops at one hour. :-/ Thanks for the idea!
