pregnancy + twin names + total eclipse (of the heart?) + but then I took a baby gate to the knee

Time for pregnancy number two, God willing! God also willing, I would like to get pregnant before October, as part of operation: avoiding having a summer third trimester. We don't have air conditioning (most people don't in Vancouver) and in July and August, especially at night, it can be awful trying to sleep even if you're not pregnant. ( Read more... )

the pipster, names!

You guys are okay financially to have another child soon, right? The costs do add up kid by kid, especially when they get older.

In my experience, late spring/early summer is a good time to have a birthday. It means that you can get a lot of your summer clothes as birthday presents and a lot of your winter clothes as Christmas presents, which has been great for both me and my sister (born early June). My birthday is at the tail end of the date range where this works really well, and, while I found during childhood that a lot of kids were on vacation at the time of my birthday, I generally like having it in early summer. It's nice to have the two major gift-giving occasions of the year evenly spaced.

Yes, we're aware of the financial implications.

To a certain extent, birthday timing is something you can either embrace or disdain, you have to choose to make the best of it and look on the bright side. Like my own birthday, February 13, means that in any romantic relationship, I'm always susceptible to getting the combo St. V's/bday gift. But in practice I've found that boyfriends/The Husband are scrupulous to show that they're doing separate gifts, or they pick a really nice gift as a combo gift. And when I was really little I loved having Valentine themed parties. I would have a tea party with lots of hearts--heart tablecloth, heart hangings, etc. Super cool when you're seven.

Summer birthday people always got to have the POOL PARTY BIRTHDAY which was awesome. I love pool party birthdays.

Christmas birthdays do seem difficult, but I hope that I could make it work if any of ours had that as the day.

I was thinking along these lines :P. Cosima is better, even though most people, like me, will probably be unsure how to say it, and Stella and Felicity are nice. I'm a bit worried about Benedict if you think there's any chance the boy would want to live in the U.S, because of the Benedict Arnold association. I like the boy twins idea.

I think that when you've got a first and a middle name to give a kid, it's considerate to give them one that will code as normal across a broad spectrum of the society/societies they're most likely to be engaging in. Giving the kid a normal western middle name ala "Damiana Katherine" gives them a choice later of what to go by that is legitimately and obviously theirs.

A PHD candidate in my department has a baby named Jude, he's a handsome little chunk. She prayed to St. Jude while she studied for her comprehensive exams, and she passed, so there you go!

My knowledge of things like this is admittedly incredibly shallow, but St. Jude, the patron saint of lost causes?

Yep.

Having known a number of phd candidates, I can believe it, lol.
