I love redemption arcs, for boys and girls, and would love to see more of the latter.

I'd agree Caroline Bingley's not really that awful too. Her worst fault is Darcy's - pride - and of the two of them she's more fair when it comes to actually dealing with others (isn't Darcy the one who conceals Jane from Bingley while Caroline just tells him what she thinks?). Likewise, both of them (snobs but not ones who want to see others actually ruined) warn Lizzie off Wickham. I don't necessarily see how that's empathy on Caroline's part, but it definitely puts her in the category of unpleasant people who will nevertheless do the right thing when it really matters.
