Ah, the pungent smell of failure

Jan 06, 2014 21:18

So, it recently occurred to me that I have a kink meme fill and a couple comment!fics that I've never spruced up and posted elsewhere. I'm talking stuff that's been taking up space on the internet for years already, like, I feel old unearthing the fill especially. Anyway, I was about to go ahead and finally do that, right? And it hit me that the ( Read more... )

writing, all aboard the fail boat, so... yeah, how old am i again?

My titles come from songs or a key line in the story. Sometimes I just leave it untitled.

Titles are hard.

You could go the classic way. The title for an essay I did once was "The Star Spangled Man with the Plan and the Doctor with the Demon; or, How a Superhero and a Man of Science Use “Power” to Manipulate Their Lives."

=^..^=~

That essay sounds amazing, just going by the title. What was it on exactly?

It was on exactly what the title said. I compared Captain America with Dr. Faustus and how they used their own powers to influence their lives. Captain America had his patriotism and passion and later the super-serum and the support of Dr. Erskine. Dr. Faustus had his magic and Mephistopheles but no support. Their methods were different; their drives were different; it focused on that power aspect, though. I think I talked about the higher powers involved as well, but I don't remember exactly. I was rather proud of how much I was able to take out of it.

I think I still only got a B on it, though. Never was able to write an essay deep enough for an English professor.

If you really want to know exactly what it's about, I could probably show it to you. It should be saved somewhere online.

Oh man, titles. I am not a good title-r, though I usually just seize upon a phrase or something that I like and own it. XP I try to avoid song titles but that's really the only rule I have for myself.

You could always go the Emily Dickinson route, and use the first line of the fills! :P I'll bet that would make for some pretty original titles, haha. XD

Haha, it's good to know I'm not alone. Idk, man, usually I puzzle over the matter for a bit and then settle on a line from the story or else a relevant phrase or lyric or occasionally a song title, I admit, but sometimes I am just. Stumped. Like, I panicked over what to title that fic I wrote you, but the title itself came to me when I called. On the other hand, I once wrote a series of Lavender/Parvati drabbles for a remainder round at femslash100 and while the individual titles were all pretty easy (they were all Clue accusations because reasons), I gave myself a headache trying to figure out what to call them collectively when posting to FFN (could think of something to stick to the Clue theme, alas).

Pfft, there's an idea! I don't see it working as well for fic as it does for poetry, though, the first sentences are all pretty mundane. Two of them are Ed, Edd n Eddy (well, one Ed, Edd n Eddy and one Ed, Edd n Eddy/Naruto crossover with a focus on the former), so I may just see if I can't bum off the show's theme titling (common phrases with ( ... )

Okay, that is GENIUS. <3

Kiba finds Shino masturbating with his bugs, they have sex utilizing the bugs. That's it. That's the fic.

WAIT NO THAT IS GENIUS, TOO.

With all this genius exuding from you, I'm sure the titling gods will turn in your direction!

PFFFT, NO, SOME OF THEM WERE SERIOUSLY REACHING TO STICK TO THE THEME. LIKE, ONE WAS CALLED Minerva McGonagall in the Hallway with The Points Deduction OR SOMETHING AND THAT WASN'T EVEN THE WORST.

AND THAT FIC CONCEPT DOESN'T COUNT AT ALL EITHER, THAT WAS THE PROMPT I FILLED FOR.

Any appearance of genius is but a glamour, and so the titling gods have forsaken me :(
