I'm a huge fan of "For the Widows in Paradise, for the Fatherless in Ypsilanti."

Yay, I love Sufjan! Actually, everyone loves Sufjan - Illinois was gunslinger. staff's #1 overall album pick for 2005. Did you see me rec him in the comment to your post a couple months back?

And I love "For the Widows..." off of Michigan, too - the only song on that album I might like as much is "Romulus". But Illinois is the more engaging album overall, I think.

I did have your recommendation in mind, and I'll confess it only hit critical mass in my mind when I saw it on a sidebar in Amazon. So your mention was one of the marbles to tip the scale* and make me download a ton of his songs.

Have to agree with your opinion on the New Pornographers' Twin Cinema though -- it just didn't hit me right.

Have a great break! It's too bad I don't ever seem to run into you randomly on campus anymore.

*some of us still have old-fashioned brains composed of marbles.

she reappears! I miss you. let's get together for tea and latkes, or bananna smoothies made me with soy nog. (first thing I've ever liked about Christmas - soy nog is fantastic!)
