Blink

Rob has tried his best to get me into the new Dr. Who and thus help to mitigate my uncoolness. But after I watched three or four (Rob says three, it seemed more like five to me) annoyingly bad episodes, I finally told him he was not allowed to show me any more episodes. No matter how clever he thought they were. UNLESS, that is, the episode was ( Read more... )

THAT is the ONLY episode of Dr. Who I've LOVED! It was the very first one I ever watched, just by happenstance, so I was lucky! (Introduced me to Carey Mulligan, as well.) Since then, I've watched the doctor here and there over the seasons, but, aside from one Xmas episode back when, I'm not really fond of the show. I'm very uncool.

Yeah, I want to like it, but I think it is aimed at a much younger audience, like teens and 20's. Which is how old I was when I watched the original Dr. Who. The new ones seem, for the most part, to be poorly written. They bore me. Sooo uncool!

Blink, however, was cleverly written, even though the plot was totally derivative. Stephen Moffatt clearly had fun writing it. I will likely watch the episode written by Neil Gaiman when it comes out, but otherwise, no.

I really do not enjoy Dr. Who. However, at some point it came up again in my journal and someone told me that I had to watch Blink. So I downloaded it and watched it, and enjoyed it. But then I posted in my journal, "So, I watched the first three or four episodes of the new Dr. Who, as well as Blink. I really liked Blink, and really disliked the other ones. Is that an indication that it got better over time, and that I should watch more recent episodes, or is Blink an aberration?" The response was overwhelmingly (even from fans) that Blink is an aberration and that if I didn't like the other episodes I saw, chances are I wouldn't like the show any better now than I did then.

I am glad I am not alone in disliking the show. :-) Mostly it feels poorly written and bores me. Blink, however, was cleverly written, even though the plot was totally derivative. Stephen Moffatt clearly had fun writing it.
