Lost dog

A week ago, as rfunk and I were heading out for the week's grocery shopping, a Rottweiler bounded across the road in front of my car, near the Interstate entrance ramp. Rounding the corner onto the ramp we saw a hatchback stopped at the edge of the asphalt, passenger door ajar. A woman sat in the driver's seat, making an exasperated gesture with her ( Read more... )

I hope the owner called animal control and I also hope the dog was micro-chipped. I don't think we should judge her for the small, type car since we don't know the situation. That may be the only car she has. He definitely should have been on a leash, though. My husband bags on me because I make my dog wear a leash every time we take him on a ride with us. He is not a runner but if we were ever in an accident, I would want someone to be able to grab the leash and pull him to safety.

I wish I had thought to notify animal control about the escaped dog. I really hope she was able to get him back.

Maybe that car's driver wasn't the owner. Could it have been another driver who had just stopped to try and get the dog?

Based on the hands thrown up in the air gesture the woman was doing, it sure seemed like she was more invested than someone trying to corral a stray would be.

bizarre! The other day I was driving to work and there was a black lab in the road. Luckily I was just on a residential street, so I pulled over and called to the dog. He didn't like that, and barked at me, but I scared him back into his yard. I was going up to ring the doorbell of that house and a young man wearing a backpack came out, and I asked him if this was his dog.

"Um, yeah."

He didn't seem bothered at all by the fact that his dog was just running about collarless. "Your dog was standing in the road. He was almost hit by a car," I told the drooling moron.

"Oh, okay, yeah." He replied, and then encouraged his dog into the back yard while I went to my car.

People should be given a common-sense test before they're allowed to have pets or children or even plants.

Good for you for getting the lab out of the street!
