Minuses and pluses

I hate that my commute is so long, I feel guilty for my car's gas consumption and emissions, and I dislike the inconvenience of grocery shopping when the nearest grocery is 8 miles away. Ah yes, but consider that it takes me one hour and 15 minutes to commute by bus to a location I could reach by car in 30 minutes. It's a trade-off on many levels, where we live and our consumption habits.

On the drive back to Chicago from New Orleans recently, the skies and stars and the moon were so lovely. Here, when it's not slate gray or overcast, the moon's an easy one still. But the stars? I miss them sometimes. I miss desert nights lying beneath a blue-black blanket of stars.

I could drive part way to town and then pick up a bus the rest of the way. I really need to look into doing that. I miss my reading time on the bus.

Ah, there is nothing like the desert night sky, is there! I haven't seen that for many years.
